The website is directed for stage 4 History class and is an interactive way to allow students to investigate the importance of archaeology in discovering history of the past.
OUTCOMES
> Describes the nature of history and archaeology and explains their contribution to an understanding of the past HT4-1
> Identifies the meaning, purpose and context of historical sources HT4-5
>uses a range of historical terms and concepts when communicating an understanding of the past HT4-9
PRE-REQUISITES
- Students will need to know how to locate and evaluate information.
- Students will need to be able to use the internet.
- Students will need to know how to interpret historical sources.
- Students will need to be able to use Prezi and be able to present in front of their class.
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
- Teacher's will be able to assess the student's progress through the use of their Journal which should be filled in throughout their journey of the website and then uploaded online within the 'Upload Centre'.
- The glossary quiz will allow students to study history and archaeological terminology and be able to self assess their understanding. Teachers are able to view their grades online and within their journals for the quiz.
- Teacher's will be able to assess the student's understanding of the outcomes and, how to correctly analyse/compare and contrast historical sources and their use of historical terminology and the nature of history in their Prezi presentation.
- Teachers will be able to assess students' oral, written, visual and digital forms and the development of their presentation skills within the final assessment.
- Game based learning activities also allows students to learn interactively with ICT.
HELPFUL HINTS
-Ensure that resources are readily available for the students. (Computers, printer, internet access and if the school has a prescribed textbook, have the students bring them into each lesson assigned.)
-Teachers must be familiar with the Web 2.0 tools, as not all students will understand how to use the technology at the beginning.
- The Forum within the 'Upload Centre,' Teachers can guide students to create their own profile. Encourage students to upload new findings or anything interesting they have learnt. It can be used also as a way of reminding and advising the students on certain tasks, and even starting discussions on certain sources.
-Teachers need to ensure that students upload, their tasks (Journal/Prezi) within the upload centre at the conclusion of the website.
-When allocating groups for the Prezie assignment ensure partners work together, and all are involved. The principal reason for using this teaching strategy is that, for some desired outcomes, it offers greater opportunities for students to learn than would be possible in whole class teaching (Joanne Harris, Roy Killen, Deslea Konsa et.al, 2013)
- For further resources and references, refer to the 'Resources' page.
